Following its bulletins of 5 May 2021 updating the New Industrial Strategy proposed in 2020, the European Commission has further indicated that it is going to rely fairly heavily on trade to deliver on the main challenges confronted by our economies and societies in Europe. This is especially the case in relation to sustainability, digital transformation, and international competitiveness, in addition to the need to overcome the crisis provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic. The EU Recovery and Resilience Plan launched in Spring 2021 is basically building on the capability of European industry to design and produce the constructing blocks of the dual green and digital transition. At the same time, the EU is shaping a dense regulatory framework that doesn’t all the time help the liberty and suppleness wanted for firms to develop and compete globally.
The European expertise industries, and specifically our pumps, compressors, taps and valves sectors, have for a really long time thought-about the enhancement of their international competitiveness throughout the challenges of societal and environmental challenges, notably by contributing to the preparation of power efficiency and ecolabel rules. In parallel, digitalisation has offered increased alternatives and brought new challenges, including debates on the appropriate regulatory degree (sharing of commercial knowledge, synthetic intelligence, cybersecurity, etc).
These developments, amidst ever extra fierce worldwide competition, require that public authorities and industry within the EU work more and more more intently to design and deploy methods that reinforce our competitiveness and our contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This would be the subject of the initial debate kicking off our Joint EU Policy Conference, which can deliver collectively key policy makers from the three EU policy establishments in control of the Industrial Strategy and three Executives representing and illustrating the achievements enjoyed, and challenges still confronted, by these three key sectors of trade.
Specific Technical and Policy Issues
As the regulatory landscape throughout Europe, and indeed the whole world, turns into ever extra advanced, the burden on industry solely will increase. It therefore falls to sector particular commerce organisations, similar to Europump, CEIR and Pneurop, to establish and advise on these technical and coverage points most related to their respective sectors. In our explicit arena, that relates, of course, to the manufacture, distribution and use of pumps and all pump associated gear – a huge and essential subset of industry, given the width and breadth of pump purposes.
Against this backdrop, one of many main issues when figuring out the core themes for the joint convention was to hold up a direct reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Within this focus, the three associations intend to spotlight how, along with the importance for companies to deal with technical aspects impacting their every day enterprise operations, they contemplate the positive position of trade in addressing societal challenges. Indeed, all the sessions will have a technical theme matching the most appropriate UN SDG, and with illustration from the European Commission together with technical consultants from business and/or research institutes, they’ll each be reflective of the current legislative terrain, because it relates to pumps and pumping techniques within the following key areas:
Circular Economy & Eco-design (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 12: Responsible Consumption and Production)
Industry’s Digital Transformation and Innovation (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)
The restriction of use of supplies and substances of concern (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 6: Clean Water and Sanitation)
The regulatory and legislative panorama throughout Europe is turning into increasingly complicated, and business, in all its guises, needs to be aware and prepared for what is coming. By partaking with those trade organisations that characterize your greatest pursuits, you probably can hold abreast of all the compliance developments as they have an result on your corporation and the areas during which you operate.
